Dr Mikao Usui
What is Reiki?
Many Eastern Philosophies believe in the presence of a "vital energy" which is all around us
and is present in every living thing. This is known as "chi" in China, "prana" in India and "ki"
in Japan, but is all exactly the same energy. "Reiki" is actually two Japanese words - "Rei"
means God, Creator or Spirit and "Ki" means energy or power. Reiki attunements merely
allow a person to access and channel this energy for healing. Gentle, non invasive and very
soothing, Reiki can be used to help with all kinds of physical and emotional conditions.
Reiki is not connected with any religion, nor does it depend on any belief system or faith.
Reiki with Crystals
Crystals also have their own energy and can also be used for healing. They can be
placed on and around the body during a Reiki treatment to enhance the treatment and
help to balance the body's natural energy centres, or chakras. The choice of crystals is
very personal and is tailored to the individual.
What Can I Expect From A Treatment?
A Reiki treatment usually takes place with the client lying down on a massage table, fully
clothed and warm and comfortable. The practitioner places their hands on or over the
body in different positions corresponding to the body's energy centres. Sometimes
warmth or tingling can be felt, which is completely normal. Crystals can be used during
the treatment, or not if the client prefers. The treatment takes about an hour and is a
very relaxing and pleasant experience.
Who Will Benefit from Reiki?
Reiki is very safe and suitable for everyone, including the very young, the elderly, pregnant ladies and those recovering from surgery. Conditions
which may benefit include:
- Menstrual/Menopausal Problems
- ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome)
- Back Pain
Reiki is not just a treatment to have if feeling unwell, if you are healthy then Reiki will help you to stay that way, balancing Mind, Body and Spirit.
Dr Mikao Usui
Dr Usui was a minister and teacher at a Christian school for boys in Kyoto, Japan in the second half of the 19th
Century. He was interested in healing and undertook a 21 day retreat in the mountains, of fasting and meditation.
It was during this time that he experienced visions and miracles that led him to Reiki as we know it today. Usui
Reiki is still taught in a traditional way and practitioners undertake a 21 day cleansing process after each
attunement in keeping with the experiences of Dr Usui.
