What are Hopi Ear candles?

Ear candling is also known as Thermo-Auricular Therapy and is an ancient therapy practiced by various cultures technique used by a Native American Indian Tribe, The Hopis, which gives this therapy its name. The Hopis used ear candles as part of their healing rituals, realising the benefits of their practice for cleansing, healing and purifying of the mind, body and spirit.
What can I expect from a Treatment?

The client lies on one side on a comfortable treatment couch and the outer ear area is gently massaged with a blend of aromatherapy oils. The ear area is then covered by small towels and the candle itself also has a guard around the bottom to protect the client's skin. The candle is then lit and gently placed into the ear, and held in place by the Therapist while it burns. The flame creates a vacuum effect which helps to loosen wax and draw out other debris which may be in the ear canal. The client will usually feel a pleasant warm sensation and may hear crackling and occasionally "popping" within the ear. The treatment is a pleasant and relaxing experience and does not hurt.

Once the candle has burned down to the safety line it will be removed and extinguished, and the process repeated on the other ear. Further massage of the ear area on both sides is then carried out to encourage lymphatic drainage and enhance the effects of the treatment. Many clients feel an immediate release of pressure after the treatment, enhanced hearing and a reduction in their symptoms.
